Intelligence
There are many ways to measure intelligence. Some say success is the ultimate way to measure
success, but others say there are other ways to measure it. In my perspective, success is only one of the
ways to measure intelligence but there are other ways too.
One of the few main keys to success is definitely intelligence. Intelligence is the main factor of
academic achievement, workplace success and other related achievements. According to research conducted
in 2012 by Vanderbilt university, people with higher IQs tend to earn higher income compared to those with
lower IQs. In other words, intelligence is a reliable way to predict and measure success related to academic
and work achievements. However, there are many successful people who are considered not that smart.
Many college dropouts such as "Mark Zuckerberg" or those who don't have the "average" academic skills
still have very successful and fulfilling lives that many envy.
Their lives indicate that intelligence is not the only factor that influences success.
There are other elements such as self-discipline, emotional intelligence, ability to overcome setbacks or
even the situation a person is born in could affect the way to success.
Another way to accurately determine someone's intelligence level is an IQ test. The most widely used
one is The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale that measures the brain volume, speed of neural transmission
and memory capacity. The reason why IQ test is a precise way to measure intelligence is because there
are no external factors that affect the measuring process. There is only the test taker and the IQ test
that is suitable for the age of the test taker. No other skills such as confidence or passion are taken into
account during the test. The IQ test only measures the level of intelligence that the exam taker has.
To sum up, you could measure someone's intelligence in many ways. Success or standardized tests are
only a fraction of those ways. But in my view, IQ tests are the best way to measure intelligence because
it measures only the intelligence without any outside factors changing the outcome.
