may include developing and maintaining self-help and self-care skills, developing

               community integration, social and recreational skills; and behavior modification.


               Developmental Disability - is a disability that originates before an individual
               attains age 18 years, continues, or can be expected to continue, indefinitely, and
               constitutes a substantial disability for that individual.

               This term shall include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and autism.
               This term shall also include disabling conditions found to be closely related to
               intellectual disability or to require treatment similar to that required for

               individuals with intellectual disability, but shall not include other handicapping
               conditions that are solely physical in nature.

               A “substantial disability” means the existence of significant functional limitations
               in three or more of the following areas of major life activity, as determined by a
               regional center, and as appropriate to the age of the person:


               1) Self-care
               2) Receptive and expressive language
               3) Learning
               4) Mobility
               5) Self-direction
               6) Capacity for independent living
               7) Economic self-sufficiency


               Dysphagia - the medical term for the symptom of difficulty in swallowing, but is
               sometimes used as a condition in its own right. People with dysphagia are
               sometimes unaware of having it.

               Facility Based –  is a day program setting “within 4 walls” that specifically serves
               people with developmental disabilities.   Other more widely used terms by

               professionals in this field are “site based” or “center based”.

               Foster Home Agency (FHA) -  family homes which offer the opportunity for up
               to two adults with developmental disabilities per home to reside with a family
               and share in the interaction and responsibilities of being part of a family.  Foster
               Homes for adults provides 24 hour support from the family or person they live
