SESSION 5 - Applying your Superpowers
SUCCESS MINDSET & RESILIENCE
(Continued)
Watch & Discuss SUCCESS MINDSET video (3m 40 secs) – The group watched the Success Mindset Video (See:
RESOURCES on Page 57).
After the video, the host runs a group discussion, with mentors, applying the winning mentality football concepts in the
video to real life, where possible.
Using a football context, the host brings ‘football’ mentors into this conversation to talk about how they developed and
applied a success mindset (winning mentality) to their lives in, and out of football.
RESILIENCE
Introducing ‘Resilience’ (15 mins) – The host introduces the concept of resilience, and has the participants define what
they think it means. As an extension, he asks mentors how important ‘resilience’ is to forming a success mindset.
Mentors should provide practical examples where possible.
Interview with Hakeem Al Arabi (20 mins) – As part of addressing the topic of resilience, have the group watch a video
about Hakeem Al Arabi (See: RESOURCES on Page 57).
Hakeem’s story also provides key messages about hope, persistence and faith, all important aspect of developing a
success mindset.
2. BREAKOUT SESSION – MY STORY OF RESILIENCE (Duration: 20mins)
Participants and mentors move to their breakout groups.
In this debrief session, mentors should ask participants about what they learnt during the extended session in the main
room.
As part of this discussion, mentors and participants, if comfortable, should share moments where they showed/did not
show resilience in their lives.
• What were the learnings from these moments?
• Have they improved as a person because of the experience?
• How has that experience made them stronger?
• What opportunities have come because of their experience?
• How has the experience affected their success mindset?
3. MAIN GROUP SESSION 2 – SESSION END (Duration: 5 mins)
All breakout groups return to the main group. The host summarises the session and asks participants for any highlights/
surprises/learnings they might have experienced.
He also reminds the participants about time and day of next session.
