YOUR ROLE
A Producer is responsible for the content that is broadcast on radio shows.
To produce that content they work with presenters, production assistants, audio engineers, panel
operators, IT staff, and social media and marketing teams.
WORK ACTIVITIES
A Producer specifically…
• Creates ideas for radio show content
• Plans and briefs the panel operator, presenters and broadcast team on the format of the show
• Identifies, contacts and organises guests for radio interviews
• Works with presenters to develop scripts for live reads
• Liaises with on-air presenters to ensure that each segment starts and ends on time and
sponsorship announcements are made
• Ensures that radio shows are run in accordance with broadcasting regulations
• Edits audio for in-show use and podcast production
• Researches and communicates to presenters hot topics and the latest news on current
events that could form part of the discussion and interview content on-air
• Screens talkback calls before they go to air
• Knows listener numbers and is aware of what they want to hear
• Is calm, composed, inventive and adaptable in a high-pressure live broadcast environment.

• Production of program and segment intros and outros
• Production and scheduling of stings and bumpers
• Scripting of sponsorship announcements
• Confirmation and scheduling of guests
• Order and format of segments
• Live reads and announcements
• Talkback topics and which talkback calls go to air
• Scheduling of topics to be covered in each on-air segment
• Informing presenters of breaking news
• Timing of commercial breaks.
