An ounce of
prevention worth
a pound of cure
Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase
control over the determinates of health and thereby improve their
health. (WHO 1986).
Most of the dental disease we are treating is preventable.
If we are to address the poor health outcomes in Tasmania by 2025, and the
significant health inequities between the rural, remote and regional areas and
the most metropolitans communities, we have to start now.
RFDS research shows unless we take action now, health outcomes will be worse in
10 years.
We know what the gap is, we need to plan and implement evidence-based action to
address this gap.
Part of this is to have clear KPIs and accountability for all the funders/commission-
ers and providers.
There needs to be reform and a better integration of services.
There needs to be a stronger focus on the non-government sector, both for profit
and not-for-profit as providers and innovators.
