THE REPORT

WHERE SHOULD THE HOME OF VICTORIAN FOOTBALL HISTORY BE?

Storytelling is a compelling way of sharing the game’s history with current and future generations. It can be in the form
of discussion, debate, interviews and reflections, captured and shared using modern media such as live and on-demand
video, podcasts and radio. Another form of storytelling is showcasing a collection of the game’s artefacts that are of a
cultural, sporting, social and historical significance.

Currently Victorian football has no digital or ‘bricks and mortar’ space that exhibits the game’s artefacts.
In the following question, survey respondents were asked to provide their preference as to where a proposed Victorian
football history space might be located and/or what form it should take.

Which of the following should be the home of Victorian football history? Select more than one option if you wish

The data shows strong support for Victorian football having both a digital and physical home to showcase its history.

Over 60% of respondents stated that the game should create a dedicated Victorian football history website to exhibit its
             artefacts in digital form.

With regards to housing Victorian football artefacts in a permanent museum or exhibition space, The National Sports
Museum at the MCG (40.74%) and the proposed Matildas home of football in Victoria (40.74%) were popular choices
             amongst respondents.
11 respondents suggested other alternatives as part of (f) Other (please specify) .

Many of these respondents suggested establishing a Victorian football museum at AAMI Park. Their rationale behind their
suggestion is that it is a stadium that hosts the largest number of football matches of any stadium in Australia, and is also
built on the old Olympic Park site, an integral part of Victoria’s football history.

81 respondents provided feedback on this question.
