How to Perform the Digging System in Volleyball

             1. Understanding the Digging System
               - Purpose: The digging system is designed to receive hard-driven balls from

             opponents, especially spikes.
               - Positioning: Players need to be in the right position to react quickly to incoming

             attacks.
             2. Basic Stance

               - Feet Position: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent. Your
weight should be on the balls of your feet.

               - Body Orientation: Face the net, but be ready to move in any direction.
             3. Reading the Play

               - Watch the Hitter: Pay attention to the opposing hitter’s body language and approach
             to anticipate the attack.

               - Communication: Use verbal signals with teammates to indicate who will play the
             ball.
             4. The Digging Technique

               - Forearm Position: When preparing to dig, extend your arms in front of you with
your forearms together, creating a platform.

               - Body Angle: Lean slightly forward to lower your center of gravity, ready to absorb
             the impact of the ball.
             5. Receiving the Ball

               - Contact Point: Aim to contact the ball with your forearms, keeping them steady and
             firm.

               - Absorb the Impact: Bend your knees to absorb the force of the ball, using your legs
to help control the ball's trajectory.
             6. Following Through

               - Direct the Ball: Use your arms to direct the ball to your setter or another teammate
             after the dig.

               - Recover Quickly: After making the dig, get back into your stance to prepare for the
             next play.
             7. Practice Drills

               - Partner Drills: Work with a partner to practice digging balls thrown or hit at varying
             speeds and angles.

               - Wall Drills: Stand a few feet from a wall and hit the ball against it, practicing your
             digging technique as it rebounds.

               - Game Simulation: Participate in scrimmages to experience real-game situations
             and improve your reaction time.
             8. Key Tips

               - Stay Low: Keep a low center of gravity for better balance and control.
               - Be Quick: React quickly to incoming balls, minimizing the time spent in transition.
               - Practice Regularly: Consistent practice will enhance your skills and confidence in
             digging.
