               First-Aid Personnel

               Role of First Aiders

The minimum requirement for an employer is to appoint a person to take charge of the first-aid
arrangements, including looking after the equipment and facilities, and calling the emergency
services when required. Arrangements should always be made for an appointed person to be
available to undertake these duties when people are at work. Appointed persons are not
necessary where there is an adequate number of first aiders.

Appointed persons do not need first-aid training, though they may benefit from completion of an
EFAW course (or another suitable alternative).

HSE also guides employer to make suitable provisions to identify and understand symptoms and
able to support workers who experience mental ill health issue.
