YOKOTA DRIFT
Every school year, more YHS students are able
acquire drivers licenses and cruise around the base in
their own cars, and that can be very exciting for everyone.
Students gain a sense of freedom and responsibility as
they move into their futures. When students at Yokota
turn 16, they are eligible to take the Drivers Education
course at the Taiyo. Although they cannot drive off base
until they reach 18 years old, most students appreciate
the convenience of just being able enjoy driving around
the base.

Car culture at Yokota is dwindling, and a contributing
factor is the expense. With most students either selling
or junking their cars after graduation, it can seem
pointless to spend so much money on a car. However,
driving in high school, whether on base or off, is a big

step that many students like to take. Students who do own
