The roots of the Torres family in the Penedès can be traced back to the 17th century. Founded in 1870,
Bodegas Torres has always been one of the most consistently quality-focused wineries in Spain, as well as the
most innovative. As part of the 4th generation, Miguel A. Torres has been described as “one of Spain’s most
innovative and influential winemakers”. As well as being one of the first exponents of stainless-steel tanks and
temperature controlled fermentation, he also pioneered the planting of non-Spanish grape varieties in Spain
like Cabernet Sauvignon. But during the past 30 years Torres also focused on re-discovering ancient Catalan
grape varieties that existed before Phyloxera. Today close to 50 of these “forgotten” varieties have been
rejuvenated. In April 2017, this almost 150-year-old Spanish cellar returns to the number one spot, being
awarded the “World’s most admired Wine brands”, after coming first twice before.
