The rugged, unspoiled Awatere Valley is no location for the faint of heart, yet its harsh conditions bring rare rewards
for winemakers. The soil types and climate conspire to slow the ripening of grapes grown here, creating crisper, fresher wines
with more intense fruit than in any other region of Marlborough.

Part of the Yealands family wine group since 2011, The Crossings has three distinct vineyard sites along the north bank of the
Awatere River; Medway, planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, lies 26 kilometres from the coast in the heart
of the valley, Willow Flat spreads across seven specifically planted terraces of Sauvignon Blanc, and Brackenfield, at the mouth of
the valley, where mild coastal influences create the ideal conditions for ripe fruit flavours in Sauvignon Blanc.

The Crossings love their wine and the land that helps produce it, so they do everything to guarantee they will be able to
keep making wine here indefinitely. All three of their vineyards are fully accredited through the Sustainable Winegrowing New
Zealand programme. The goal is to make sure nothing done now will have an effect that will detract from the land or the
        wine in the future.

                                       The Crossings Grüner Veltliner

The fruit was hand-picked, gently de-stemmed and pressed to tank where it
was settled for 24 hours. The juice was then racked with a slightly increased
amount of solids in order to assist with palate weight and texture in the final
wine. At the end of fermentation the wines were left on lees and regularly
stirred, again to add texture and complexity. We then blended the wine,
stabilised and filtered the wine for bottling.
                                       Tasting Notes:
Our Awatere Valley Grüner Veltliner shows lifted notes of peach, honey and
spice. The palate is rich and complex, highlighted by nut and spice notes with a
creamy texture that finishes with fine acidity. This wine is extremely versatile
and can be enjoyed with Asian cuisine, pork and chicken dishes.
