The History of New Bern Alumnae Chapter
Polly O. Richards, Sergeant-at-Arms: Soror Richards was initiated in 1947 into Alpha Lambda
Chapter at North Carolina College, Durham, North Carolina. She taught at J.T. Barber High School in
New Bern, North Carolina.
Naomi W. Ryder, Parliamentarian: Soror Ryder was initiated in approximately1930 into Alpha Zeta
Chapter at Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama. She was an educator at Vanceboro Elementary
School, Vanceboro, North Carolina.
Norma Carter Murphy, Dean of Pledges: Soror Murphy was initiated in 1948 into Alpha Chapter at
Howard University, Washington, D.C. She taught at Godette Elementary School, Havelock, North
Carolina.
