CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Probably the most significant achievement this year in Wynnum High
School's excursions in the field of culture was the presentation of “The Crimson
Cocoanut'' for the drama festival organised by Mercury Theatre. Some “troupers”
from last year's production (and some “new faces” — pardon the expression)
excelled themselves, winning second place in the competition.
Kathy Bailment walked off with the “best actress” award for her “exotic”

portrayal of “Madam G --------- ”. Subsequently the piece was presented at the
school, much to the apparent delight of those who saw it. Hopes are high for
        next year's production.
YES, the choir is still alive — thanks to the STOUT-HEARTED MEN —
ahem ! — GIRLS — and very young men who are willing to carry the standard
in the cause of music and the school. Thanks, girls (and boys).
Several excursions to see various forms of the dramatic/musical arts (study
and/or pleasure) were organised during the year, and, though some nearly
weren’t (on, that is), generally were enjoyed by all who supported them.

                              STUDENT COUNCIL
The Students’ Council provided the avenue for students from every section
of the school to voice their suggestions for its improvements. By having Form
Captains supply the ideas of their class members to a member of the Council,
the Principal has access to these ideas and hears the discussion which arises
amongst the Seniors as their result. We feel that now this body is established
as a part of school life, increased awareness of its functions will increase its
effectiveness. The support given to it is a measure of students' interest in the
school; we hope it will grow.
This year the Social Committee, headed by Vice-Captain E. Blair and
        A. Kahler, has increased the popularity of the term socials and helped to make
        them even greater successes.
The Sports Committee, under Vice-Captains E. La Burniy and G. Carter,
has increased the enthusiasm shown in athletics by bringing to the Principal's
attention the need for new events for the girls' athletics. This enthusiasm resulted
in many records being bettered, and. at the girls' O.P.S. carnival, the school
        attained commendable results.
The Information Committee, under Vice-Captain Roscoe Foreman, has
combined its efforts in various facets of its operation to give a comprehensive
report of the school's activities to students, parents, and community. One of the
ways in which this is accomplished is through our column in “The Herald”,
“Highlights from Wynnum High”, written by D. Lawrence and L. Henderson.

                                INTERACT CLUB

The Wynnum High Interact Club has been very active in the school in
the past twelve months. The Seniors in their term of office were under the
leadership of Ted Tickle, who did an excellent job as President; Julie Gibson,
Secretary; and John Roe, Treasurer. The club's committees were headed by
Ian Blacklock (International Understanding), Gerry Gout (School and Com
munity), John Wakefield (Finance), and Margo Wright (Inter-Club).
