Once again the Annua! Camp provided the opportunity for observation of
our future leaders. It is frequently a time of pressure and provides a new
environment with quickly changing situations, requiring ready adjustment. When
the going is a little rough, the real leader shows through. At this time new
leaders are born.
There were very few problems for me to solve at Camp. This proved
that administratively things went smoothly above and below Unit H.Q. It meant
that Unit leaders at all levels were accepting responsibility and solving problems.
This is the way it should be. There were no problems with discipline whatsoever.
I feel that the Cadets enjoyed a pleasant, highly profitable Camp.
GENERAL COMMENT
The year has been a satisfactory one. One aspect which marred the picture
was the large number of Cadets who left the Unit. I feel that it is impossible
for us to take more care than we do with our system of enlistment. Boys are
informed in detail of their responsibilities and duties, before they join. Even
with the greatest care, a few undesirables have always managed to slip into the
Unit. These, however, find out very quickly that “they haven’t got what it takes”
and pull out. It might be possible to get greater parent support in holding our
recruits to their promise to serve for at least 12 months. This will be tried in
the new year.
The Unit is soon to conduct its fourteenth Annual Passing Out Parade.
We look forward to this event with great enthusiasm. A farewell now to all
those Cadets who are leaving us. When you first joined the Unit, we said that
Cadet training would be good for you. We firmly believe that it has been so.
