                               Past Students
We are happy to say that 1958 has been a successful year for the
Past Students’ Association. Our membership has increased considerably,
and this is evident in the well-attended monthly meetings held on the
fourth Thursday of each month. After business has been discussed,
these meetings merge into social evenings. Games are played, supper
        served and everyone enjoys themselves.
Amongst the activities this year, have been numerous dances, the
most successful of which was the dance held to raise funds for Morrie
Rich. He is the Physical Education Instructor at the High School and
was chosen to represent Australia in the hop, step and jump event at
Cardiff. With the aid of the present students, we were able to present
him with a cheque for £70/8/-. We sincerely thank all who helped in
        the raising of this money.
During the winter months, two barbecues were held. One took
place at Cedar Creek near Samford, and the other locally—at Capalaba.
Such outings are popular with cur members, and we hope to hold more
        next year.
An enthusiastic group of past students has, this year, climbed their
way to the summit of many mountains. Under the leadership of either
David Page-Hanify or Ralph Draheim they have climbed Mt. Beerwah
and Mt. Tibrogargan in the Glasshouse group; Mt. Widgee and Lost
World in the Lamington National Park; Mt. Moon and Mt. Maroon
near Mt. Lindsay. So great is their enthusiasm, that although each
mountain is more challenging than the previous one, the climb under
        taken is always successful.
We would like to take this opportunity of wishing all present
students best wishes for the forthcoming examinations and success in
their undertakings in the future. To all who are leaving school we
extend an invitation to join our association. To become a member a
subscription of five shillings can be paid to either the secretary, Edith
Legge (121 West Avenue, Wynnum), or to the Treasurer, Desley
        Willmott (59 Cobar Street, Lota, 96 1491). •
We hope to see many of you next year.
