Clarke, who won the under 16 boys’ and under 15 girls’ championships,
           respectively.
The year 1957 will always be remembered as Griffith’s Golden Year of
Athletics. For the first time in the history of the Inter-House Athletics
Competition we won the coveted Past Students’ Cup by a comfortable
margin of 42 points. Dennis Davis and Elaine Phillips were outstanding
in winning the boys’ minor and girls’ minor championships, respectively.
Congratulations go to Sei. Loynes, Dennis Davis, Colin Ament, the girls’
minor leader ball team and the senior and minor boys’ relay teams for
           establishing new records.
This year was also an excellent one for Griffith football teams. We
won the football trophy for the first time by defeating both Lilley and
Wentworth in the “A” grade, but going down to the former, and forcing
a draw with the latter in the "B" grade.
Charley Stobert and Robert Martin excelled and both were chosen
to represent Brisbane against teams from Rockhampton and Nambour.
In cricket, Jim Crammond, Dick Buzacott and Laurie Munro were
           outstanding in Inter-School competition.
Finally we wish to express our appreciation for the hard work put
in by our teachers, viz., Miss Nixon, Miss Hais, Mr. Hazell and Mr.
Maccoll. We would also like to thank our vice-captains, Peter Monks
and Annette Curtis, and others for their valuable work behind the
scenes and their contribution to making this year an extremely
           successful one.

                                LILLEY HOUSE
                             House Captains : I). Curtis, K. Wren.
For the second year in succession, our House made a fine start by
winning the swimming carnival. The boys under 15 championship was
won by E. Taylor, and the senior boys by R. Wren, whilst Barbara Arnold
won the girls’ junior championship. The above-mentioned, together with
           J. Paterson, L. Newcomb, P. Baker, B. Paroz represented Lilley House
           in Inter-School swimming carnivals.
At the conclusion of the swimming season, Inter-House Rugby
League was commenced with each House fielding two teams. Contrary
to general expectation Lilley House won the junior division and gained
second position in the senior division. E. Taylor and R. Kydd were
selected for a trip to Nambour.
Lilley House was well represented in the school’s “A” basketball
team, which was led by Jill Paterson. Unfortunately, Inter-House
basketball was not played this year, as we had quite a chance of winning.
Lyn Newcombe and Margaret Pleace were in the girls’ "A” tennis team.
Lyn did a fine job by leading the “A” team to the best success it has
yet enjoyed, whilst P. Banney represented Lilley in the boys’ “A”
           tennis team.
Now to a subject which we Lilleyites are not eager to discuss—
Inter-House Athletics. Here we were well and truly beaten, and we
offer our congratulations to Griffith for their well-deserved win.
Closely following the Inter-House Athletics came the dreaded
Annual Cross-Country race. That day saw many a reluctant hero. At
its completion our House was found to have won the event by a small
           margin.
Inter-House cricket was the next competition which Lilley managed
to win, but there was no great winning margin.
To conclude we would like to congratulate all the champions in the
other Houses, and to thank Miss Hegarty and Mr. Hazel for their help
in the preparations for the sports.
