8. Imaginative Recount Text
Objectives of the Unit
Upon completion of this unit, you are expected to be able to:
1. Understand an imaginative recount text with the appropriate generic structure
(orientation, events, re-orientation);
2. Identify language features (using simple past, using personal participant, using action
verb, using linking word, etc.);
3. Write an imaginative recount text by using appropriate generic structure.
Prepare Before Reading
Imaginative recount text is retelling an imaginary story, event, or experience through the
eyes of a fictional character, such as the day in the life of Shrek. The purpose is to retell
events with imagined embellishments and to help the reader understand an event by
providing a fictional recount that’s as true to life as possible (creative writing lessons). Those
are two types of imaginative recounts based on the event that can be (1) written as part of
stories, novels, or plays. (2) retell factual events from an imaginary character’s point of view.
Features of an Imaginative Recount:
1. First-person narrative >> tell the story using “I”.
2. Detailed and vivid description >> help readers visualize what you have experienced.
3. Include emotions and reflections >> let readers know how you feel and what you
think.
4. Chronological order >> cannot use flashback and in time order
5. Include dialogues >> enhance the retelling of the events.
