Painting Exhibition: Zen in the Calming Ocean
At the beginning of this year, Yayasan Belia Buddhist Malaysia was
honoured to receive 60 Zen calligraphies and paintings donated
by Venerable Chi Chern to organise ‘Zen in the Calming Ocean’
charitable calligraphy and painting exhibition. It is open to the
public and free for viewing from 22 January 2022 to 15 April
2022 at World Buddhist Stamps Gallery. It can still be viewed
online at https://en.ybbm.com.my/calligraphy .
Zen Buddhism uses arts to propagate the Dharma. At the same
time, Dharma can be practised through creative arts. When
we concentrate on the drawing paper, the mind and body are
composed. The clear mind guides the brush in the hand to draw
a profound Zen art. When the viewer is influenced by the artistic
portray and develops some understanding, the message of
Dharma is transmitted.
Venerable Chi Chern’s Zen calligraphies and paintings are widely
appreciated and loved by Buddhists and arts lovers. The 60 pieces
of his arts donated to the Yayasan aim to raise funds in supporting
