Rushana Buddha
Rushana is an abbreviated name for
Birushana butsu. The Tendai school
interpreted the doctrine of the three
bodies of Buddha as such: Vairocana
is the dharma body (dharmakaya),
Rushana is the response body
(sambhogakaya), and Shakamuni is
the transformation body
(nirmanakaya) of the Buddha. This is
the central buddha of the Flower
Garland Sutra (Huayanjing).
