During the parade to meet the people, the Prince was seated
The
high up the chariot and saw the first sight of an old man in

the distance. He asked his charioteer Channa who he was.

Channa told him that he is an old man and that all of us will

one day be old. The Prince had never seen an old man before

and was taken aback. He felt very disturbed by the sight.

The parade moves on, the Prince caught the second sight of a (斯⾥兰卡 Sri Lanka: 2013)

sick and diseased man. Again, he asked Channa who he was.

Channa related to the Prince that all of us will one day get sick

and diseased. The Prince, again, was shocked by the sight and

felt more disappointed with his life that one day he will fall sick

and diseased.

Then at a far distance, he saw the third sight of several men

carrying a corpse. Again, he asked Channa who then related to

him that all of us would one day pass away. The Prince was

greatly changed and he understood the nature of life. 看⻅病⼈ Encountered a diseased man

OMENS hermit. This was his fourth sight of omen. He spoke

As the parade moves on, the Prince saw a noble

to the man who told him that he left his home, his

family and his friends; and was wandering from

place to place trying to find the meaning of life.
