WISH Seven days after the birth of the prince, Queen
WISH
Maha Maya passed away and was reborn in the

Tusita Heaven. The queen’s sister, Maha Prajapati

Gotami brought him up.

The arrival of the son brought much joy and

happiness to King Suddhodana. He called upon
Fulfilled ceremony, which was a tradition. Among them
Fulfilled
many renowned sages to a child naming

was an old sage named Asita, also called Kala

Devala, who prophecised that the prince would

one day give up his kingdom to become an

ascetic and ultimately become a Buddha, an

enlightened human being. He wept because he

would not live long to see him. Thus he bowed

and paid respect to the prince.

The other sages named the prince and they

predicted that he would either become a

Universal Monarch or a Buddha, a spiritual

teacher.The Prince was named Siddhartha which

means “Wish fulfilled”. His family name was

Gautama. Thus Prince Siddhartha Gautama.
