                                萨尔班寺 Salban Vihara

                               (孟加拉 Bangladesh: 1991)                                             Ancient Bangladesh was part of the Ashoka Maurya Dynasty and was deeply


                                                                                                  influenced  by  Buddhism.  There  is  evidence  of  the  rise  of  Mahayana


                                                                                                  Buddhism in Bengal from the 7th century onwards, Somapura Mahavihara,


                                                                                                  or  the  Great  Monastery,  was  a  renowned  intellectual  centre  until  the  12th


                                                                                                  century. At the beginning of the 19th century, the site was excavated, leaving


                                                                                                  only the damaged base of the house and the main part of the main hall. The

                                                                                                  remains of the Salban Vihara are large in scale and are in the typical form of


                                                                                                  Vajrayana Buddhist temples.
