萨尔班寺 Salban Vihara
(孟加拉 Bangladesh: 1991) Ancient Bangladesh was part of the Ashoka Maurya Dynasty and was deeply
influenced by Buddhism. There is evidence of the rise of Mahayana
Buddhism in Bengal from the 7th century onwards, Somapura Mahavihara,
or the Great Monastery, was a renowned intellectual centre until the 12th
century. At the beginning of the 19th century, the site was excavated, leaving
only the damaged base of the house and the main part of the main hall. The
remains of the Salban Vihara are large in scale and are in the typical form of
Vajrayana Buddhist temples.
