Lenticels:
o When the epidermis is lost by the formation of periderm, the passage of gases
through the stomata can no longer takes place, So the lenticels arise beneath
the stomata and at an early stage of development of the periderm.
o The cork cambium beneath the stomata has intercellular spaces between its
cells.
o These cells divide to give phelloderm to the inside and thin walled
unsuberized parenchyma to the outside which lose all connections with one
another and known as complementary cells.
