❖ Is the breakdown of complex molecules (sugars) to simple ones and release their
energy in the form of ATP and the electron carriers (NADPH and FADH 2) to build
and maintain themselves.
C6H12O6 + 6 O2 → 6 CO2 + 6 H2O
✓ Plants use photosynthesis to store light energy into sugars and use respiration
to break down these sugars and transfer their energy to ATP
