glass filter to remove traces of the phosphate precipitate.
6. Transfer 10 ml of the final filtrate to a dry stoppered flask, add 10 ml
of Baljet's reagent and measure the absorbance of the color at 495 nm
against a blank experiment using 10 ml of distilled water and 10 of
Baljet's reagent.
7. Calculate the potency of Digitalis leaf by using Bell and Krantz
formula
Calculation
Calculate the potency of Digitalis leaf by using Bell and Krantz formula
50 * (Rx −R 100 ) + 100
(R 100 −R 50 )
Where,
− Rx = the reading of the absorbance of the color derived from 2 ml of
unknown tincture
− R 100 = the reading of the absorbance of the color derived from 2 ml of
the tincture of standardized Digitalis powder.
− R 50 = the reading of the absorbance of the color derived from I ml of
the tincture of standardized Digitalis powder.
