LAVENDER HERB
True lavender: it is obtained from Lavandula officinalis L. (Medicinal lavender) family:
Labiatae.
Microscopical Characters
1- multicellular branched trichomes from the sepals and petals covered with warty cuticle.
2- long papillosed glandular trichomes on the inside of the petals with rounded terminal cell.
3- pollen grain with 6 germinal pores and 6 bands on the exine.
Constituents
The drug is used for its oil contents, which constitutes:
- Alcohols: borneol, geraniol and linalool.
- Esters: geranyl and linalyl.
- terpenes: pinene and limonene.
- phenols.
Uses
1- In burns and healing of the skin by using the oil or put the flower and wrap with gauze of muslin
(to the skin breath).
2- Cystitis and vaginities.
3- Rheumatic conditions where the oil is massaged on the leg.
4- First appearance of cold and flu.
5- Headaches.
In folk medicine
The drug is used as spasmolytic, stomachic, diuretic and carminative.
