                     Powder

                     Powdered   Anise   is   grey, greenish-brown   or   yellowish-brown   in   color
              with characteristic sweet agreeable and aromatic odor and taste. It is characterized
              microscopically by:

                     1. Numerous warty simple hairs conical and curved with thick walls, bluntly,
              pointed a spices and finely warty cuticle.
                     2.  Fragments  of  pericarp  with  yellowish-brown  comparatively  narrow
              branching vittae, usually crossed by the cells of the endocarp.
                     3.  Numerous  almost  colorless  fragments  of  endosperm  cells  with  thick
              cellulosic
                     walls  and  containing  fixed  oil  globules  and  aleurone  grains  containing
              micro- rosette crystals of calcium oxalate with a minute air bubble.
                     4. Few fibers and very scanty pitted parenchyma.
                     5. Fragments of epidermis of epicarp formed of polygonal cells with striated
              cuticle and anomocytic stomata.
