                     Adulteration
Colocynth may be adulterated by addition of excessive amounts of rind or
              seeds.
1.The rind: It can be detected microscopically by the presence of numerous
sclerenchyma and epidermal cells with stomata and by determination of the ash
(not more than 15%) and acid-insoluble ash (not more than 8%).
2.The seed: It can be easily detected by determination of the petroleum
benzine extractive which should not be more than 3%.
