Disability Benefits
Disability management
Texas Mutual is committed to providing a safe workplace. If you become
disabled, our primary objective is to help you through the total disability
management process. Total disability management refers to the process
by which we respond to illnesses and injuries, through the coordination
of workers’ compensation, short-term and long-term disability, medical
benefits, return to work, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance.
If you become ill or injured on the job, we will make every effort to
secure immediate and appropriate medical attention. We will attempt to
create opportunities for you to return to safe, productive work as soon as
possible. The goal of the disability management process is to return you
to your original job. If you are unable to perform all the essential
functions of your original job, we will make a reasonable effort to provide
alternative productive work (if available), that is consistent with your
known capabilities and/or restrictions.
Human Resources will help you prepare for a scheduled disability leave
or assist you with the process if an unexpected disability should occur.
Human Resources will help you with the administrative process for FMLA,
short-term disability, long-term disability, and workers’ compensation,
and will assist you with the return-to-work process.
It is your responsibility to report all unsafe conditions to your supervisor
and to provide advance notification to your supervisor if you plan to miss
work due to an illness or injury. If you need to miss work due to an
unexpected illness or injury, notify your supervisor as soon as possible.
It is also your responsibility to review and understand Texas Mutual’s
leave policies.
Short-term disability
If you become disabled and unable to work, you may apply for short-
term disability benefits. The plan provides 100% income replacement if
you are eligible and unable to work for an extended period due to an
eligible illness or injury and you are under the care of a physician.
