3.4 MARINE ENGINES
AND GEARBOX TRANSMISSIONS
Cummins QSC 8.3 L C Marine Diesel Engines
The vessel is fitted with two Cummins QSC 8.3 L marine diesel engines, each developing 442 kW
(600 hp) at 2850 rpm.
The engines are common rail marine diesel engines fitted with two stations for throttle and gear
controls, one being in the wheelhouse and the other on the fly bridge.
The engines idle at 750 rpm and the maximum engine speed is 2850 rpm.
The engines are fitted with an engine monitoring system where the engines are started or
stopped. To start the engines, the throttles must be in neutral, engine ignition switches on, with
the emergency stops on the fly bridge and in the wheelhouse and engine room in their normal
de-energised positions.
The engine instrumentation displays all engine sensors and fuel tank levels. All engine alarms will
also be displayed on the instrument displays with an alarm code. The detailed explanations for
alarm codes are in the Cummins user manuals.
