SKIN DISEASES
Diagnosis: is most commonly made by
1. Looking at the burrows or rash.
2. A skin scraping may be taken to look for mites, eggs, or mite fecal
matter to confirm the diagnosis.
Complications:
Bacterial infections
Nephritogenic
Streptococcus colonize in lesions-acute glomerulonephritis.

Treatment
Application of scabicide over entire body below head:
o 5% permethrin cream (wash after 8-14 hrs)
o 1% lindane cream (wash after 8-12 hrs)
o Benzyl benzoate 25% applied below chin (wash after 12 hrs)
Ivermectin single dose orally
In 5% of cases, 2nd treatment may be necessary after 7-10 days.
Applying Prescribed Creams
Apply thin layer over whole body from neck down, paying
particular attention to folds in skin
Trim fingernails and toenails, apply under nails
Reapply after hand washing
Leave on for the recommended time of the product
Bathing with warm, soapy water and hard sponge then dry the
skin
Other Scabies Treatment
Antibacterial topical
o Neosporin, Bactroban
Anti-inflammatory topical
o Hydrocortisone (Cortaid, Westcort)
Anti-histamines (Oral)
o Benadryl, Atarax, Periactin
