SKIN DISEASES
Clinical pictures:
Grey patch: Patchy partial Alopecia with the presence of grey scales
located on the scalp. The hairs are dull, lusterless and broken.
Black dot: The infected hairs break on the surface of the scalp and
the dark stump remaining in the hair follicles give the black dot
appearance of the lesion. The lesion is scaly, Alopecia.
Kerion celsi: Due to infection by animal variety of fungi. There are
marked inflammatory changes. The lesion appears as boggy;
indurate deeply inflamed, swelling with broken or unbroken deep-
seated pustules.
Treatment and nursing care:
1. Local hygiene of the scalp in the form of shaving the scalp hair at
zero .
2. Topical fungicidal preparation is recommended.
3. Griseofulvin treatment: Its action is fungistatic; it is given in tablet
form for (5-6 weeks). It is better given with a fat meal to produce
better absorption.
2. Favus
It is endemic in Egypt, Favus occur at any age but usually starts in
children and continues to adult age.
Mode of transmission: As ring worm
Clinical picture:
1. Sulfur cups is characterized by being yellowish cup –shaped or
saucer-like .May be centralized by a hair.
2. The condition may lead to cicatrical Alopecia.eg .atropic skin with
permanent Alpecia.
3. The hair becomes lusterless. The scalp hair appears as dusted with
powder.
4. There is a special offensive odor.
