SKIN DISEASES



               Morphology:

               The eruption is formed of group of vesicles. The vesicles at first contain
               clear  fluid  and  then  become  purulent.  The  vesicles  rupture  leading  to
               crust formation .Usually, herpes runs within a week. But it tends to have
               recurrent attacks.

               Management:

                     In  recurrent  herpes  simplex  (R.H.S),  the  cause  or  predisposing
                      factor should be treated.

                     Gentian violet 1% or broad spectrum antibiotic to avoid secondary
                      infection with antiviral ointment is applied topically.

                     Gingvostomatitis: Mouth wash with sodium bicarbonate solution.

                     Valvuvaginitis:  warm  compresses  or  sitz  bath  with  sodium
                      bicarbonate or potassium permanganate.



                                  III-  Common fungus infection in Egypt

               1.  Tinea capitis (ring worm of the scalp)

               Methods of infection:

               Direct: Head to head, or from domestic animals.

               In  direct:  By  contaminated  barber's  instruments,  head  caps,  theater  or
               cinema seats.


                  NB: Males are more affected than females; children up to age of 11 years are
                                                   more susceptible.

               Types of ring worm of the scalp:

               1-  Non inflammatory types

                     Grey patch

                      Black dot.

               2-  Inflammatory type: Localized e.g.; Kerion celsi, diffuse lesions.
