               5.  Single  parent  family:  One  adult  male  or  female  (separated,  divorced,
                   widowed) with children

               6.  Step family: One or both parents have children from previous marriage.

               7.  Polygons family: Family with more than one wife.

             B- Non-traditional families


               1.  Cohabitating family: A male and a female living together without marriage,
                   with or without children.

               2.  Communal family: Several adults and children living together because of
                   religious or financial necessity.

               3.  Skip  generation  family:  Grandparents  are  raising  their  grandchildren
                   because of working parents.


               Family functions and related tasks:

                      Function refers to how families go about meeting the needs of
               individuals and meeting the purposes of the broader society. Every family has
               six main functions: -

                5. Providing socialization                       Transmit their culture.
                                                                 Learn roles within the family.

                6. Establishing controls                         Maintain order.
                                                                 Learn right and wrong.
                                                                 Teach division of labor.



               Family life cycle and developmental tasks

                      Families grow and develop as the individuals within them mature and
               adapt  to  changes.  A  family’s  composition,  set  of  roles,  and  interpersonal
               relationships change with time. Any family passes through eight stages in its
               life cycle. In every stage the family has certain developmental tasks that must
