Family health nursing

Family nursing is a kind of nursing practice in which the family is the
unit of service.

Objectives of family health nursing

The main Objectives of family health care as follow:
 To identify health and appraise health problems of family.
 To ensure family’s understanding and acceptance of their needs and

problem.
 To plan and provide health and nursing services with active
participation of family members.

 To help families develop abilities to deal with their health needs and
health problems independently.
 To contribute to family’s performance of developmental functions
and tasks.

 To help family make intelligent use of facilities and services in the
community.

 To educate, counsel and guide family members.

Principles of family health nursing

When community health nurse want to implement family health care,

they have to follow the following principles:-

1. Provide services without discrimination to all family members.

2. Focuses on strengths of individual family members.

3. Incorporate all family members either healthy or ill.
4. Apply periodic and continuous appraisal and evaluation of family health
situation.

5. Ensure proper maintenance of record and reports.

6. Provide continuous and realistic services in terms of resources available.

7. Integrate health education, guidance and supervision with family health
nursing care.
8. Encourage active participation of family.

9. Encourage family to contribute towards community health.

10. Foster family active participation in making health care delivery system.
