Harry Belafonte was an American
singer, actor, and activist. He was
born in New York City in 1927 and
died in 2023. He was known for his
calypso music, his work in the civil
rights movement, and his
humanitarian efforts.
Belafonte began his career as a
calypso singer in the 1950s. He
released several successful
albums, including Calypso (1956),
which was the first million-selling
LP by a single artist. He also
starred in several films, including
Carmen Jones (1954) and Island in
the Sun (1957).
In the 1960s, Belafonte became a
prominent figure in the civil rights
movement. He was a close friend
of Martin Luther King Jr. and
performed at many of the
movement's rallies. He also helped
to raise money for the movement
and to organize boycotts and
Belafonte was a talented artist and a protests.
