These %u2018scripts%u2019 can be learnt from common family sayings or strings of words from TV, films, books, and songs. A body movement can also be echoed whereby non-verbal communication can convey meaning equivalent to a spoken script. See Chapter 4, Physical Gestalts.Gestalt Language Processors may have social communication needs and/or have a diagnosis of autism. However, not all Gestalt Language Processors are autistic, and not all autistic individuals are Gestalt Language Processors. Gestalt Language Processing is an alternative pathway of language development to Analytical Language Processing. The diagram below represents the pathway of stages of Gestalt Language ProcessingThe numbers 1 to 6 are not representative of age or equivalent to the analytical language stages. These stages will be explored in detail in the subsequent chapters of this book. What is the difference between immediate and delayed echolalia?Immediate echolalia is when a child or young person immediately repeats back what has been said to them and this can be seen as part of the first stage of language learning in any child%u2019s language development. Delayed echolalia is when the child or young person repeats what they heard after a time has elapsed. Delayed echolalia is observed in Gestalt Language Processing. The importance of reinforcing both immediate and delayed echolalia is explained in Chapter 3.
