Remember a single word gestalt:%u25e6 is spoken with the same intonation pattern as the source%u25e6 may or may not be accompanied by a physical gestalt%u25e6 is used to convey a different meaning from the conventional definition of the word.%u2022 If so, determine the source of gestalts.%u2022 What are their meanings?%u2022 What percentage of their speaking is gestalts? If the child or young person is using single words, it is important to differentiate between whether they are at Stage 1 where the single words are gestalts or if they are at Stage 3 where they are self-generated words.Example GLP Stage 1Analyse how the word is being used and the source of the word. If the source is from a familiar repeated family phrase, favourite TV, film, YouTube, Gaming game, book or song and the word is used to convey a different meaning than usual, the word is likely to be a single word gestalt. To identify single word gestalts, it is important to use the context in which the word is spoken and think about what the child or young person could be commenting on or requesting. Investigate:%u2022 What has happened before the word was used?%u2022 What is happening as the word is being used?%u2022 What is going to happen?Example: Child M said %u2018Splash%u2019 on entering the bathroom. It was deduced that the meaning was %u2018It%u2019s time for a bath%u2019.When M says %u2018Water%u2019 in the kitchen they do so to request ANY drink including juice or milk so it means for the child %u2018thirsty%u2019.SplashWater
