A transcript of a child or young person%u2019s utterances and any physical gestalts is recorded. Highlighting the transcript with the colours corresponding to each category of communication shown on the form will help with the analysis. The colour coding of the form acts as a visual to show to others the Gestalt Language Processing Stage at which the child or young person is communicating. This may then guide the type of support the child or young person may benefit from. Recommendations for support are outlined in Chapter 5. The results may be shared with a speech and language therapist for further input from their expertise. The GLP Observation Form should be used with the understanding that a speech and language therapist trained in Gestalt Language Processing may choose to use an alternative observation tool or process for assessing and/or monitoring the GLP Stages. The GLP Observation Form is not a diagnostic tool nor a formal assessment and is not part of the NLA protocol. If a more detailed numerical score is required, the GLP Observation Form can be used to calculate this. The total number of utterances is noted. The total number of utterances for each category of immediate echolalia, single word gestalts, gestalts, mitigated gestalts and self-generated language is recorded. Then the percentage of utterances for the corresponding Gestalt Language Processing Stage can be calculated.Reference for how to complete the calculation:NumberInsert the total number of utterances recorded Percentage(The number of utterances under one colour coded category %u00f7 the total number of utterances) %u00d7 100If the percentage of gestalts is clearly 80% or more of the utterances at a Stage of Gestalt Language Processing, then this indicates the GLP Stage observed for the child or young person. If the percentage is clearly 50% or more (but less than 80%) then the child or young person is mostly at the corresponding GLP stage. If the results are not clear or conclusive the results may serve simply as a guide and can be used to monitor change.
