A transcript of 100 utterances was analysed.Immediate EcholaliaSingle Word GestaltsGestalts Gestalts Mitigated GestaltsMitigated GestaltsSelfgeneratedSelfgenerated0 0 2 5 93Number100Percentage of self-generated utterances(93 %u00f7 100) %u00d7 100= 93%The percentage of self-generated language exceeds 50%. If 50% to 80% of the utterances are self-generated the child or young person is at Stage 4 most of the time. However, these results showed 93% of the utterances are self-generated so is over 80%. A result showing over 80% indicates that young person B is communicating as GLP Stage 4 for 93% of the time. B may benefit from further observation of the self-generated language to determine the stage of complexity of their language. B can now be supported at Stages 4 to 6 and may benefit from language support strategies commonly used for those with speech, language and communication needs.Note: A young child may be observed, and a case history and transcript of their utterances suggests no current or previous use of delayed echolalia or gestalts. The analysis may show only immediate echolalia and self-generated language. If the child has no history of using gestalts, then they may be in the early developmental stages of Analytical Language Development.Immediate EcholaliaSingle Word GestaltsGestalts Gestalts Mitigated GestaltsMitigated GestaltsSelfgeneratedSelfgenerated0 0 2 5 93In this example, 95% of the child%u2019s speech is self-generated, and the remaining 5% immediate echolalia. This is likely to be part of the first stages of Analytical Language Development.
