It may be helpful to add any used gestalts or mitigated gestalts, so any communication differences are shared between all supporting adults. %u2018About Me%u2019 information should be completed by a supporting adult in collarboation with the parents/carers and other adults who know the child or young person. The %u2018About Me%u2019 can act like a Communication Passport, Millar and Aitken (2003), to ensure that important information about the child or young person and how they prefer people to communicate with them is shared.8.9 WHISPERING GESTALTSWhspering gestalts may be observed at any age or stage so this information is not GLP stage related. A child or young person may move through the stages of Gestalt Language Processing and be mostly using self-generated speech yet still use gestalts under their breath. Some children and young people who are Gestalt Language Processors may mask their gestalts and use them privately or whispered. An individual approach to support them may include the supporting adult showing them privately that they understand and recognise Gestalt Language Processing, and it is OK to use the gestalts if they choose to do so. If their whispered gestalts are very difficult to hear, an audio recording might be helpful. Software may be able to augment the speech to determine the meaning of the whispered gestalts. This should be part of the observation of the child or young person%u2019s communication skills.
