They may engage and attend due to having more motivation to learn vocabulary in association with their interests. The supporting adult should be imaginative in how to incorporate their interests in the learning of particular concepts or words. Think about how, who, when and where you can teach the target vocabulary.Target%u2018During the preferred activity of playing in the water with miniature sea creature figures C will share positive interaction and increase their understanding and use of the concept and word %u2018full%u2019%u2019.Preparing for the activityChild C has easy access to two water trays inside and outside of the reception class at times across the school day. The water trays have a selection of vessels which can be filled with water and miniature sea creatures which have been placed in the water.Interaction during the activityWhen the child chooses to play in the water, one supporting adult joins in with their preferred activity of moving the creatures about in the water. The supporting adult engages with C and models the use of %u2018full%u2019 when relevant. The adult demonstrates the meaning of the concept by filling and emptying the vessels. The adult models the use of the word %u2018full%u2019 and will extend and expand naturally on C%u2019s communication. Photos of a vessel full of miniature sea creatures and an empty vessel are taken so the concept may be reinforced across other parts of the curriculum.An example for a young person at Stages 5-6 and who attends secondary school with a supporting adult for individual adapted learningScenario: An example is child C who is in a Reception class with a team of supporting adults and is predominantly functioning at GLP Stage 4.Scenario: Young person Y is passionate about skateboarding. Y is functioning at GLP Stages 5-6. The supporting adult is imaginative in incorporating their interest in skateboarding when possible.
