SEPTEMBER GIGS
AT NE VOLUME MUSIC BAR, STOCKTON
I know I say it every month, but it’s true - we have another jam-packed gig schedule coming up for you this month, with something for everyone. Our first gig of the month, taking place on Thursday 1st, is a bit of a pop-punk special featuring Set Your Sights and Tired of Fighting, with Teesside alt-rock outfit thrown in for good measure. On Friday 2nd, we welcome back Beans on Toast after his sold-out show just over a month ago. Essex-born folk songwriter Beans on Toast is an extremely unique performer. Twisting an age-old genre with a D.I.Y. approach and contemporary concerns has earned him the title of a cult figure who tells it like it is. Support on the night comes from Jack Flanagan (who performs in Beans’ band), as well as well-established Teesside singer-songwriter, Alistair James. Just one day later, renowned Teesside promoters Big Figure Promotions host ‘The Gun Club Tribute’, featuring Inca Babies, Nervous Twitch, Dead Hombres, The Milk Lizards and Chas Thomas. Expect a mix of surf-rock, synth-pop, garage rock ‘n’ roll, punk and pop. On Wednesday 7th, our Battle of the Bands competition returns! After the success of our first BOTB, we decided that now was the perfect time to reignite the battle. Heat one will feature metal band Nation in Ruin, post-hardcore outfit Ruled by Raptors, experimental electronic act Marq Electronica, and singer- songwriter, Darren Wilde Mitchell. If you’re a fan of rock, then we have you covered on Friday 9th as we bring Coral Snake, KissKissKill, Mr. Bigfoot and Autonym to Stockton. And if you’re a fan of alt-rock, you have to join us on Saturday 10th for another four-artist line-up featuring Elephant Red, Rare Breed, Polyvinyl and Thought Trumpet. On Thursday 15th September, we welcome Teesside outfit Provenance (made up of members from CLU), for their highly-anticipated headliner. And on Saturday 17th, we see the return of Floral Detectives, an exciting alternative rebel-rock band from Darlington. Expect abstract situationist storytelling and nascent punk riffs from Teesside’s Shrug on Friday 23rd, plus an indie special on Saturday 24th featuring young, up-and-coming artists The Thieves, The Collectors and Gaz Price. Other notable highlights include our BOTB heat Two on Wednesday 14th featuring Labyrinthine Oceans, The Grizwoldz, Lean Days and Incantus, BOTB heat three on Wednesday 21st featuring Mortal Chains, Cellos, The N/A and Chris Mardula, and the return of soulful pop singer-songwriter Beth Macari on Friday 30th.
