    THE WEATHER STATION
AT GOSFORTH CIVIC THEATRE, NEWCASTLE
Hailing from Toronto, Canada The Weather Station make their way across the pond this September as they head to Gosforth Civic Theatre. Fronted by Tamara Lindeman, The Weather Station emerged on Toronto’s vibrant folk scene in 2009 and have now cemented themselves as an outstanding act on an international level. Following the release of the newest album ‘How Is It That I Should Look At The Stars’, which is arguably their best work to date, it contains tracks that demonstrate Lindeman’s progression as an artist as well as little nods to past projects. Folk fans are certain to love what this Canadian outfit has to offer. GEORGINA SHINE

NOYOU
AT INDEPENDENT, SUNDERLAND
If you’re a fan of lovely, chilled, refreshing synth-pop, fit with upbeat vocals and nostalgic guitar chords, then you won’t want to miss Noyou’s performance at Independent in Sunderland later this month. Perfect for the end of summer, the four-piece focuses on soaring indie vocal melodies and radiating good summery vibes fit for dancing and getting drunk with your friends to. However, their music goes beyond this too, with genre-bending beats reminiscent of dance music, with pumping basslines and ‘80s synth that gives some of their tracks an almost drum ’n’ bass adjacent sound. This is accompanied by sharp arpeggios and fuzzed-up guitar riffs that carry their music safely into indie-pop, with some of their songs also featuring really interesting solos. This Sunderland gig may well be their biggest headline show to date; however, some of their other achievements include playing at some notable festivals including the recent Play Brew’s Summer Jam and The Georgian Theatre’s Songs from Northern Britain, with the band also supporting outfits such as Club Paradise, Sarsaparilla and Plastic Glass. They’ve also released a string of ten singles since 2019, garnering tens of thousands of streams across their discography without releasing a single EP or LP. Picnic, a similarly cross-genre six-piece that cover everything from funk and jazz to indie, will be providing main support. With four eclectic singles released to date, and recently back from a two-year hiatus, this will be only their fourth gig since returning - so make sure to give them a lot of love. Picnic are here to warm you up for Noyou with their similarly summery vocals, clean guitars and even a saxophonist to whisk you away to a jazzy Californian beach paradise. Their music begs to put a smile on your face and make you feel good and is perfect for getting you in the mood to dance to Noyou. And up first are Violectric, a relatively new band who will start the night off with a bang, with their over-driven guitars, harsh dissonances and punky vocals. Having recently released their first single ‘Get What I Want’ at the end of June, these guys are going to get you rocked up and excited for what's to come in the night, as well as hopefully what's coming next for them. Noyou, Picnic and Violectric head to Independent, Sunderland on Friday 19th August. ADAM BRACCHI
