CLASS OF 2022
AT MIDDLESBROUGH TOWN HALL COURTYARD
If you’re a fan of the North East music scene (well, as a reader of this magazine, we hope you are), then you won’t want to miss the Class of 2022. Taking place on Saturday 6th August at Middlesbrough Town Hall Courtyard, the event, put together by the team behind Twisterella, in association with Middlesbrough Town Hall, will bring together an incredible line-up of some of the brightest and best emerging talents from across the North East as they celebrate the #UpTheBoro movement. Zela, a brat-pop duo consisting of siblings Liv and Max Griff, have taken a dark and imaginative approach to music and produce intoxicating tracks filled with their attitude-laced alt-electronic pop. Moon Wax have become known for creating pop classics that combine jazz, soul, retro- funk, bossa nova, and psychedelia pop. Singer-songwriter Jodie Nicholson also joins the line-up with her ethereal vocals and a combination of indie, electro, and funk-pop, whilst also taking inspiration from her father’s love of prog-rock, to create a diverse and explorative soundscape. Dreamy pop trio Mt. Misery will bring you all of the summer soundtrack feelings with their enchanting mix of original, chilled tracks. If electronic alternative pop is more your thing then look no further than female-fronted outfit, Twist Helix. Having delved into the worlds of 80’s synth, with a stunning mix of indie and disco, you can be sure that no matter what track you hear from these three, you will want to get up and dance the day away. Middlesbrough’s Joe Ramsey will be bringing his full band along for his set and will feature a number of his own fresh and creative indie-inspired tracks. Further acts on the line-up include singer-songwriter Jen Dixon and rap artist, Shakk. Although the Class of 2022 is due to take place in the courtyard, don’t worry if it does rain as organisers have planned for the potential British weather. If there is no sunshine, the event will take place at the Town Hall Crypt to ensure audiences don’t have to miss out. With such a diverse and high-class mix of talent, this event will showcase just how incredible the North East music scene is. GEORGINA SHINE

LIGHTNING BOLT
AT THE CLUNY, NEWCASTLE
NEWS
Lightning Bolt aren't just named after a force of nature - they are one. This Rhode Island two-piece have been creating a racket that fully-staffed bands could only dream of for nearly 30 years now, with their latest effort, 2019's 'Sonic Citadel', offering no respite in their continued noise-rock onslaught. Renowned for their "guerilla" setup of playing anywhere and everywhere, the organised chaos of their gigs sees drummer/ vocalist Brian Chippendale and bassist Brian Gibson set up in the middle of the crowd, offering a claustrophobic, punishingly loud and thoroughly life-affirming experience every time. They play at The Cluny on Saturday 13th August. KEV SHORT
