STAGE
This month, Newcastle’s Live Theatre welcomes a new performance from the legendary theatrical innovators, Forced Entertainment. On November 29th and 30th, audiences can experience Tomorrow’s Parties, a thought-provoking survey of hopes and fears as our characters speculate about what the future might bring. Bringing together a mixture of utopian and dystopian visions, science-fiction-style scenarios, political nightmares and absurd fantasies is a show that will leave you with a new perspective on the world and the reality we live in. The production is a playful and poignant tale with moments of delirium that look forward to futures that are both possible and impossible. Our protagonists find themselves on a stage framed in colourful lights that leave audiences with an assumption that the performance will be minimal, before transforming into a low-fi theatrical explosion. The show follows the performers as they enjoy the pleasure that comes with the invention before watching their suppositions take them in different directions. Intriguing, emotional and thought-provoking, Tomorrow's parties has it all. GEORGINA SHINE

ART
Hinterlands is a group exhibition that invites the audience to consider its relationship with the land and its ecosystems. The artists showcased in Hinterlands explore complex histories, mythologies, legacies and potential futures for its custodianship. New commissions and existing works by artists connected with the area reflect on ideas of rootedness and belonging, human and more-than-human relationships, boundaries, land and time in the era of the climate emergency. The idea of hinterlands – the land away from the coast or the banks of a river – is at the core of the exhibition, which explores what lies beyond the visible. Considering land and place as a complex layering of relationships, the exhibition will explore these ideas through innovative artistic processes and approaches. The contributing artists are Michele Allen, Uma Breakdown, Jo Coupe, Foundation Press, Laura Harrington, Emily Hesse, Alexandra Hughes, Dawn Felicia Knox, Mani Kambo, Sheree Angela Mathews, Anne Vibeke Mou and Sabina Sallis. Hinterlands is on display at BALTIC, Gateshead between the 22nd October 2022 and the 20th April 2023. EMMA CHESWORTH

most recent shows. In truth, the most famous of Gorman’s works, as outlined here, are merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his eccentric exertions across countless mediums over the last quarter of a century. Attendees at Middlesbrough will be witnessing outstanding comedy craftsmanship from an act with deeply enviable abilities and an immensely deserved audience behind him, owing to many years of cultivating a comedic identity which is barely removed from the brilliantly funny man himself.
