E.g. pretends to drink from a cup and makes drinking noises. Georgia uses everyday objects on herself eg: drinks from a cup, eats a toy orange. drinks from a teapot. Single words Uses single words, mainly nouns but some verbs. (8-20mths)Uses objects or Large Doll toys on a doll or teddy The child pretends to play but now moves beyond himself. He will involve character dolls in his play as if they are real people. E.g. gives teddy a drink. Georgia knows the doll represents a baby. She can give drinks to the baby. She also makes a cup of tea and gives it to an adult. Extends his vocabulary - vocabulary approaches 50 single words. By 24mths vocab includes verbs and begins to use describing words e.g. %u2018up, down, quick%u2019 (16-26 mths)Small World begins The child will start to play with Small World toys e.g. likes cars, trains, animals. Clearly shows you s/he understands what the things are through using them appropriately but not acting out scenarios yet.Starts to join words together Puts words together to form short phrases e.g. %u2018daddy car%u2019, %u2018bye-bye daddy%u2019, %u2018daddy gone%u2019. (16-26 mths)Acts out routines The child is able to act out simple sequences of play. Tends to be Large Doll sized toys. These reflect his experiences.Longer phrases Combines 2-3 words to talk about the here and now. Starts to use word endings e.g. %u2018running%u2019 %u2018jumped%u2019 %u2018bikes%u2019 and other aspects of grammar e.g. %u2018the%u2019, %u2018a%u2019, %u2018is%u2019, %u2018I%u2019. (22-36 mths)
