E.g. reaches out and grabs a muslin and puts it in his mouth. Pre-intentional communication. He will move/make sounds in response to changes e.g. may cry because he wants a drink. (0-5mths)Recognises objects as part of a situation Shows some recognition of the object and what might happen next. E.g. gets excited when he sees a favourite toy. Anticipatory communication. Child will move and make sounds before something happens so you know he recognises the %u2018event%u2019. (5-11mths)Uses everyday objects on himself The child shows an understanding of an object by using it appropriately. There is no pretending. E.g. lifts a cup to his mouth.
