Narrative: The Covenant With Many
“It is one of the twelve, that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, he it is, to whom I shall give a
sop, when I have dipped it the same shall betray me. And truly the Son of man indeed goeth, as it was
determined: As it is written of him: But woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It had
been good for that man if he had never been born.”
And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. Then Judas, which
betrayed him, answered and said,
“Master, is it I?”
He said unto him,
“Thou hast said.”
And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him,
“That thou doest, do quickly.”
Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. For some of them
thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him,
“Buy those things that we have need of against the feast;”
Or, that he should give something to the poor. He then having received the sop went
immediately out: And it was night.
And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. And
he said unto them,
“The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon
them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: But he that is greatest among you, let him be as the
younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he
that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at meat? But I am among you as he that serveth. Ye are they which
have continued with me in my temptations. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath
appointed unto me; that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging
the twelve tribes of Israel.”
Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said,
