Former Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi appointed UPSC member
President Pranab Mukherjee appointed Bhim Sain Bassi, IPS (Retd) as a member of Union Public Service
Commission (UPSC).
He will hold the constitutional post till February 2021, from the day when he enters the office.
B S Bassi Bassi is an officer of Indian Police Service of Arunachal PradeshGoaMizoram and Union Territory
(AGMUT) cadre of 1977 batch.
During his career spanning over 38 years has held several important positions like Commissioner, Delhi Police, Special
Commissioner (Traffic), Delhi Police, Special Commissioner (Vigilance), Delhi Police, Inspector General, Chandigarh police
and DGP, Goa Police.
Rakesh Kumar Mishra appointed Director of Centre for Cellular and Rakesh Kumar
Molecular Biology Mishra
Rakesh Kumar Mishra is appointed the new Director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology
(CCMB) by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
Mishra is a noted expert in the study of function of genes. He had joined CCMB in 2001 as a senior
scientist after stints at the IISc, Bangalore, the University of Bordeaux, France, Saint Louise University,
USA and the University of Geneva, Switzerland for postdoctoral experience. He obtained his masters
degree from Allahabad University.
Major General Per Lodin appointed to head UN Military Observer
Group in India and Pakistan
Per Lodin, Major General of S weden, was on 8 June 2016 appointed as the Head of the UN Military
Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). Lodin's appointment was approved by United Nations
SecretaryGeneral Ban Kimoon.
Major General Per Major General Lodin succeeds Major General Delali Johnson Sakyi of Ghana, who will complete his two
Lodin year assignment as Chief Military Observer and Head of UNMOGIP on 2 July 2016.
Lodin is currently the head of Strategic Material Management at Forsvarets materielverk (FMV), the Swedish Defence
Ministry's procurement and logistics arm.
Indian-origin Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir nominated as US Ambassador Kamala Shirin
to Malaysia Lakhdhir
Indianorigin diplomat Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir was on 17 June 2016 nominated as the next American
Ambassador to Malaysia by US President Barack Obama. She will replace Joseph Y Yun, a career member
of the Senior Foreign Service.
Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir served as the Executive Assistant to the Under Secretary of State for Political
Affairs from 2011 to 2015. She served as the US Consul General in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United
Kingdom from 2009 to 2011. Previously she worked in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs as the
Director of the Office of Maritime Southeast Asia from 2007 to 2009.
Manohar now ICC chairman
Shashank Manohar is elected as the first independent chairman of the International Cricket Council. Manohar resigned as
BCCI president to make himself eligible for the post.
